Social Media Influencing News

How do you receive news?

In past times people use to turn on the TV to watch the evening news at certain times of the day or listen to the news on their way to work. Ever since Social Media became a craze more and more people are turning to their favorite forms of social media to learn their daily news. Nearly 64.5 percent receive breaking news from a social media source instead of traditional news sources.

How has do you hear about something after it was announced?

Not only has Social Media changed the way society receives its news it has also revolutionized the timeframe reports have to share their story. Since everyone is now on Social Media daily the news spreads faster.

Is it fake news?

In addition to a new way to receive news in a faster time frame, there has been a trend outbreak of fake news. Since reports are on a crunch to put the story out sometimes they do not have full details or correct details when they release the story. Not only do they not have all the details, but some websites start rumors that people believe then repost. Therefore this all over users feeds, which becomes fake news competing for popularity by crazy and untrue headlines.

So what now?

Big news corporations are seeing and understanding this change with how the public receives their news, so now they are moving with the trends. Networks like CNN are have launched a daily news update on Snapchat stories feature. But CNN is not the only one, almost all networks have social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to give news stories.
